Science magazines have gone astray. Today, the popular rags of science are more interested in scientific fantasy and political debate or social justice than they are in explaining phenomena using objects. But, then, mainstream science abandoned using objects to mediate phenomena long ago in lieu of abstract theoretical mathematical descriptions and reification. We'll look at examples of how concepts have been turned into objects and verbs into nouns through the current offerings of Discover, Scientific American, National Geographic, Popular Science and Astronomy magazine.
